Retarder performance and applications
The use of retarding admixtures to assist plasticizers/superplasticizing admixtures in giving workability retention over extended periods beyond the normal setting time of the mix is well covered above. Workability retention is required in order to place and fully compact the concrete.
Cold joints are formed when fresh concrete is placed onto a previous pour that has already undergone an initial set, preventing the two pours being vibrated into a single monolith. It typically occurs on large or complicated pours when, after placing one section of concrete, adjacent areas of concrete are placed over an extended period before further concrete is placed onto or adjacent to the first pour. Over this time period, the first concrete pour has not only lost workability but has started to set so that it is no longer affected by the action of a vibrator. The new batch of concrete fails to fully bond to the earlier pour and a line of weakness with respect to both strength and permeability now exists in the structure. The first batch of concrete does not need workability for the two pours to be vibrated but it must not have gone beyond its initial set. A retarder can be used to achieve this, and in extreme cases can delay the initial set for over 24 hours for very difficult or large pours.
Packaging, storage and transportation
Packaging: 25 kg/bag
Transportation: This product should be transported and stored in a dry environment at normal temperature (less than 40 ℃), avoid direct sunlight. Do not stack or press heavily to avoid product agglomeration.
Shelf life: 12 months, and it should be used within 60 days after opening.
